Using Structural Insulation with ICF

Structural insulation in the base ICF courseThere’s nothing more exciting for us than getting to try new ideas. So as we begin our next build, we’re continuing to develop our knowledge and experience in the area of low/passive energy design.

This is one of our latest developments, the use of structural insulation as the initial infill to the ICF structure onto which the first pour of concrete then sits.

As we move closer to the ideal of zero energy design, even small amounts of heat loss through the footings of the structure can compromise performance levels. So placing a layer of insulation at the base of the concrete core within the ICF system shuts off this potential energy escape route in a way that’s far more cost effective than trying to insulate the entire footing or base slab.
